Conflict Resolution Training Course
Course in Mediation and Conflict Resolution Perth
Making Conflict Work: Harnessing the Power of Disagreement: A Practical Guide for More Productive and Efficient Disagreement
Course Overview
G'day, colleagues! My name is Dr. Marcus Clarkson, and for the best part of 20 years I have been assisting Australian businesses to make their biggest headaches their competitive advantage. You know what I've discovered? I've been on some of the best teams that'd ever won anything, and they weren't the ones that were void of disagreement, they were the ones that knew how to disagree effectively.
This 1 day applied workplace mediation training course is for anyone who is thrown into, or finds themselves in, the middle of disputes at work, like managers and team leaders. We will get together in Perth in a cosy learning environment, where you can practice actual skills, not just theory learnt off a page of a textbook.
Having worked with mining Companies in the Pilbara to tech startups in Fremantle and everything in between, I've seen the same patterns repeated over and over. The companies that succeed aren't free of conflict but are conflict wise. What they've realised is that tension, when managed the right way, usually signals that people care a lot and want to get it right.

What You Will Learn
AM Session: Conflict Dynamics 101 We begin our day by uncovering why conflict in the workplace is actually on the rise in today's day and age, and what it means for how you lead. You'll begin to recognise the difference between healthy conflict and destructive discord, and finally recognise the hidden cost of unresolved tension.
Practical Communication Tools You'll learn my "Three Step Listen" process I have taught to executives across Australia – a simple yet effective approach for ensuring people feel heard before you even begin to problem solve. We'll discuss how to ask the kind of questions that reveal the problems rather than gather the complaints.
Application to Real World The afternoon is all practice. You will explore real case studies taken from Australian workplaces, and learn how to work through everything from personality clashes to disputes over resources. We'll simulate the situations where you're the mediator, the team leader and sometimes caught in the middle.
Prevention and Culture Building Lastly, we will see how we can foster team contexts where we use conflict as a means for innovation and not as a stress factor. You will exit having concrete techniques for fostering psychological safety while maintaining accountability.
Key Skills Development
The goods on emotional regulation – how to stay calm and think straight when others are getting all hyped up
Strategic Questioning: Discovering the questions that advance conversation vs. causing defensiveness.
Solution Architecture: A set of agreements that work, because they all made them.
Facilitating Teams: Leading through difficult conversations without shrinking from the issues.
Course Summary
This isn't about becoming everyone's workplace therapist or eliminating all disagreement. It's equipping students to navigate conflict when passionate people come together to work toward common goals.
You'll walk away from this training with a tangible tool kit that function as well in the real world of tight deadlines, budget constraints, and clashing personalities. Most importantly, you will have practised these skills in a safe space where you can make mistakes and learn from them before taking them back to work.
Because the investment you make in these skills pays dividends from day one in productivity gains that benefit your team, in less stress for you, and in the kind of workplace culture that helps you nail the staff that you most need. And after all, no one should dread going to work because of lingering tension, and no one should have to.
